Trail Report: Palomar Divide/High Point Rd to Hwy 79

Took a ride from Warner Springs area up Palomar Divide Rd (9S07) to High Point look out tower. The tower was occupied and USFS was working on a new propane tank. Continued on High Point Rd to drop down onto Hwy 79 near the 371 turnoff and found a new steel gate (locked). Some folks on the other side of the gate said it was installed just an hour prior. We had to turn around and truck back 26 miles back to Warner Springs area.

Nice to see our tax dollars spent on locked gates...!

You seem to be getting my luck. I aways seem to find the locked gates too.

The concrete was still fresh when we arrived at that gate....the guys on the other side had a pair of bolt cutters and offered them up, but it dd not feel right cutting a USFS chain...

Was this where the trail passed close to an RV park?

very close to the high end rv park...which means you cannot access high point rd from hwy 79...only at palomar divide road 9S07
