• Trail Report: Ord Mt Mines

My daughter and I did a little mid-week exploring in the Ord Mts on Wed. We found some pretty cool mines.
    THe Maumee mine

This mine has a few branches inside and goes in quite some dstance.

A few primitive rock cabins there.

Another site. Looks like Cyanide tanks.

Another large site, with several vertical shafts.

Yet another site we saw from the top of the hill. Several mines in the area.

    Long eared bat.

Then we ran out of daylight.

Wow! Nice pics Mike. Looks like you had a great day exploring with your daughter. I really have to make an excuse to find myself in that area for a day (or many).

            Mike,

You are encroaching on my turf now! Nice pictures. The Maumee Mine is cool although the small turn around area on the tailing pile is only good for 2 vehicles. Did you see the fenced "Jojoba Bushes" as you start the rough climb? Great view. The leaching tubs at the small copper mine are fun spot that most people miss, good eye. The "Aztec Springs" area has a dozen mine spots around it and several rock cabin remains. The canyon that contains the cinder block building has several mine tunnels, a hundred year old mule trail that angles to the top of the west wall and meets up with the Circle T Mine on the other side. If you hike up the canyon you will come to the "Sweetwater Springs" which run year round. there are a couple of petroglyphs near the spring at the end of the canyon. Also, the spring drains down the rock face and freezes in the winter. A very cool site! It is so cool that you have kids that enjoys the trips as much as you do. A lucky man indeed! Thanks for sharing, some of us have to work!!!!

My treks usually come about by the rest of the family saying...were going shopping or something like that. Then I say...lets go check out some mines or something to who ever is at home. So I don't even know I'm going till the moment.

THis run we left at noon.

Mitch I saw the plants fenced in, but wasn't sure what species they were. There were some others there but some hunters were parked by them.

In fact one of the hunters stopped me and asked if I had any luck. I said yea! this mine was really cool, he looked puzzeled as we left.

The mine with the concrete building has a 4x road down to it. But I don't know if it's private property or what.

It got dark before I could explore any more of YOUR mines.
