Hi MJR folks! Wheeling season is almost here, and it's time to start planning trips. Every year in November, I go out to Truckhaven and have a big party in the desert, mixed in with a little wheeling. I'd like to extend the invitation to my friends here at MJR.
What this is: A rockin' fun time with good people and fun wheeling.
What this is NOT: An organized event with specific trail leaders/itinerary/start-stop times/etc. If you need structure and organization, this ain't the run for you. However, we do have something very fun planned (read on for details).
Last year's run was quite muted, due to the recession I'm sure, but this year it's time to blow this sucka up!!!!! While not yet great, things are looking better, and what better way to celebrate than with a pre-holiday run to Truckhaven?
This year's run will be held over the weekend of Nov. 13th - 15th, so mark your calendars!
We will be camping in exactly the same spot as we did last year. There's plenty of room for RV's, campers, quads, bikes, Jeeps, Toyotas, Broncos, etc.
OK, now for the big send-up! This year we will be having more of a themed run. We have planned an off-road scavenger hunt! However, instead of finding things and bringing them back, your mission will be to find certain landmarks in and around Truckhaven and take pictures of you and your rig at that place. There will be somewhere between 8 and 10 checkpoints (unmanned - I just don't have that much help...lol), and at the end of the day we will upload all of the pics onto my PC and show them outside on a big screen. The winner will get some sort of prize (probably a pie or cake or something; we'll just have to see).
The list of checkpoints will not be revealed until the morning of the hunt. Wheelers will be grouped into pairs for safety, and the hunt will begin. I wanted to do something different than just the standard "follow the leader" type runs we've been doing in years past.
This is not an "event". There is no cost to come play, and I never am all that organized anyway.
This IS a kid-friendly run! In fact, we are putting together a kids scavenger hunt also, which they will be able to participate in on Saturday afternoon as people start coming back. There will be prizes and goody bags for the kids.
I am not planning a potluck this year, but there is always a ton of food, and I'm sure we can all put together something without too much effort.
I'm hoping for a good turnout this year! You have two whole months to plan for it. Get busy!
