Looks like the ANF is pretty much closed for good until next year.

To my knowledge, everything we drove through burned with the exception of Newcomb's Ranch.

I've been meaning to drive up Angeles Crest Highway (I'm not really even sure if it's open) to see if there is anything left that's visible from the highway, but I'm not very optimistic.

It's my understanding that this is the largest fire in recorded history for L.A. County. Last I heard, it burned more than 160,000 acres.

Are you sure Newcomb's burned? I'd heard that it made it, but the little general store/cafe up the way was destroyed.

It will open again the same day Angeles Crest Hwy is open
Upon further digging, I understand that there are pockets of land throughout the Angeles National Forest that survived in the fire zone. I'm not sure how accurate that might be, but it appears that Newcomb's Ranch is OK.
