Today, I met Roger and Le Anne, Mary (Skittles), Scott (AVjeepfreek), and Justin with son Wyatt in Lucerne for a cooler run in the east Big Bear area. As we were getting ready to leave we saw Joe (Schmo) who was waiting for Rick-a-Shay and another to run Rattlesnake and others. We visited for a bit gefore we took off.
It was a warm morning as we headed up Hwy 18 towards Cactus Flats (3N03) to air down. that's where Justin and Wyatt joined us for the trip.
As we headed towards Heartbreak Ridge we did a detour looking for a mine that shows on my Topo. Strike one, couldn't find it in the area of 2N90 (Tip Top Mountain).
Mary relaxing on the swing
So next we headed to 2N01 (Green)and then to 2N89A (Blue) to 2N61Y Heartbreak Ridge (Black Diamond) to run west to east which is backwards.

After searching for the mine that Mike went to the day before.... Strike 2 couldn't find it. I'm not happy and normally find the things that I'm looking for! So we took a nice lunch break enjoying the thunder in the distance and the cooling weather.
With the approaching storm we changed plans again and decided to run the rest of Heartbreak Ridge. The hardest section was still in front of us but everyone was ready to try it. I went first to lead from the front! I've run this the other direction a few times, and for me I do prefer the uphill direction. Of cource being first , I let everyone see my bad line and got WAY TIPPY to entertain everyone. I thought that today was the day to lay it over, but Scott helped me through it. Scott spotted everyone else with better lines and made it look easier. In my opinion, I would not run a stocker though here but I'm sure that it can done. As Scott was spotting Justin, there was a close hit of lightning up near 2N02 less than a mile north of us (Sure this is the one that started the small fire).

We made our way to 2N02 after a small detour. As we headed west on 2N02 we saw a large group of empty Jeeps. These were the "Way we Go's" and they saw the lightning strike and the resulting small fire and climbed over the side of the trail with shovels and water and put out the fire! Awesome quick thinking and dedication! Thank you guy's. When we checked with the 1 occupied Jeep we were told that the fire was out and they were just cleaning up.
It was starting to rain and the Jeepsd that we saw were still dripping with mud. So as we headed towards the moving storm we drove through the remaining puddles and mud. We headed down 3N03 back to Cactus flats on a dust free trail with a newly form stream flowing half way to Hwy 18 where we aired up.
Because I had promised 6 year old Wyatt (Happy Birthday Buddy) a mine to explore, Scott led us to the "Judy Kay" Mine off of 3N03. A quick explore of this small mine we were done for the day. It was averaging 75' till we headed back to Lucerne that was about 105'.
Thought we might need the winch
Lots of old mining stuff
Thanks everyone for a great day! Incredible weather, good fun times with friends. Good Stuff.
