I was in pismo a couple weeks ago (my mom lives there) the dunes were way outa wack. They were pretty intense. Not normal rolling dunes with some fun stuff. cant really explain it, but not the norm dunes. This was a day or two before a paramedic crashed his quad and died.
be safe and have fun!

do any of you guys know if you need a 4x4 truck to pull a toy hauler on the beach without getting stuck
Low-low air down. I have see it done without 4x4. I have seen 5th wheel pulled without 4x4. It's when you make that turn is where you get into trouble. The beach is hard packed. Above the beach it gets soft.

Yes. I've been going for years. Lower the air on the truck if you're staying close to the wet stuff, and lower the air on the trailer if you're going further in. We camp right at the edge of the dunes in the back with a 35' 5th wheel loaded. Not a problem if you know what you are doing.
When I had my 2wd F-150, I pulled my 24 ft toy hauler out there no problem. Like folks said, air down both truck and trailer. Check tides for the creek crossing. Use common sense and you'll be fine. There is always someone to lend a hand if you get stuck.
