1N01 is closed. There is a locked gate about half way down the mountain.

Not sure if it is the gate by the campground. I have never driven the whole trail. I know someone who rides motorcycles the big bear tril riders, and he told me that is has been closed for a while.

          Curtis,

Ask Mike about that. I believe that 1N01 is the trail that the lower section was bought by "Wild-Lands Conservancy". This group helped form "The Pipes Canyon Preserve". The lower section of Pipes Canyon is perminately closed. I hope that this info is correct and helps you.

It is amazing that an old existing dirt road through an area of public land can end up like this.

            Pipes Canyon

The lower portion is closed because of the preserve.

There is a rough campground at the end of the road at the Preserve Gate. But the road no longer goes all the way through. It only goes to the edge of the National Forest.

I'd guess it's been closed for about 15-20 years or so by now.
the road can be rough, down and back from the top.
the abandoned FS camp ground was really rough last time I was there..creepy.

[COLOR="Blue"]1N01 is a NF AAT, and dosn't go through. I think it's 7 miles to the turn around point. Nice trail, but very remote.

It's probably too late for this road. But in California, I beleive a road can not be closed that has been in use for seven years. I think you have to sue the entity who closed it and ask the court to make them reopen it. I wish that had been done. That was a great run down to Pioneer Town
