If this is the same Dan, his nickname is "Mayor of Slickrock". I had the pleasure of wheeling with him three years ago when he lead a group of VW Touaregs through Hells revenge and some other trail. I was a noob on the offroading tip at that time.

Nice guy and really knows his stuff! He's in this video. About 1:17 on the video. Really cool guy.
