  • Trail Report: New Trails for Nick

Since Nick and Barb (USMC 0369) are going to be moving away in June, we wanted to run some trails that they haven't been on before they leave. Unfortunately, Barb was out of town this weekend, but we treated Nick with the utmost respect:

It was a gorgeous day in the mountains:

Here's Materdaddy showing Dirtman13 the proper technique:

Sarah suddenly surprised as their Jeep drops off of the same obstacle:

    Nice flex Eric!:

The valley down below was all foggy and hazy most of the day. It was nice to be up in the sunshine:

We stopped and waited for this guy to cross the road. The right of way always goes to the natives:

For lunch, most everyone headed to a malt shop where we were to meet up with FishPOET. Rat Patrol, Dirtman13 and I decided to take the scenic route up 2N17X to get there. The gatekeeper at the head of the trail can be tricky:

Did I mention that it was a gorgeous day?:

    Creek beside 2N33:

The main goal of the day was to run Dishpan Springs (3N34). The first climb has some nice rocks on one side:

Chris led the way up the falls:

Rubi supervised from the side lines:

Near the end of the trail, Chuck's Jeep got tired and decided to take a nap:

After we woke it back up again, we headed to pavement on Edison Road. That trail is not a blue square trail anymore even though the sign still says so. It is easy now that the tractors have come through to cut the burned trees out. Too bad.

I guess Chuck is just not happy unless he lays his jeep on it's side. How did the windshield frame hold up this time? Will Chuck be able to buff it out like last time?

I'm thinking he should buy a case of window frames.....

Well, the eletro-shock therapy finally put my schizophrenia in remission and I remembered my real name!

Here are some short vids from Dishpan. First is Nick after climbing the falls. He thought that he was past the hard part:wink::

Sorry, Sharon didn't catch anything good after that. I think she was distracted by everyone giving you directions at the same time.

But it looks like Eric caught a good shot of the show in his pics in this thread.

Man, After a great weekend like last weekend, I should have expected work to be a bitch this week. Just got home. So let me get some pics of Nick's run posted up here.
The morning was perfect for taking pictures. And I had lots of good subject matter to choose from-

Poser Rock (Chris, Erik, Nick, Mat, Russ, and Chuck)

What a great day. Nick, you'll be back...

It didn't. It was bent pretty good. Spent last night trying to winch it straight. It's almost there. I think I'm done with the glass windshields. Time to go Polycarbonate.

You live and learn. I chose a bad line and paid for it.

We had a great time!! Thanks to everyone for a great day. I have yet to go through the photos, but because of my lethargic dawg, I didn't get out of the jeep much, so they're probably mostly scenery anyway. But the scenery was incredible and it was a super clear day.

Sorry we had to bail for Dishpan. Rick needs to get his jeep sorted. When we got back it was super windy and blowing sand everywhere - he didn't feel like scoping out the damage and I didn't blame him. We were there in spirit!!

Awesome pics, ya'll! Here is a special Dishpan photo for ya, from back in the day when we didn't even have a digital camera.

                              Recognize it?

P.S. Chuck, another flop!! Glad everyone was ok.
