Christian, I have some way points & points of interest I can give you. I'll print out the map of the Fry Mtns for you. This will be only for the Fry Mtn portion of the trail. I did not pre-run the whole trail.

The trail actually covers about 4 USGS Topo maps.

We have some heavy GPS users in MJR. Fishpoet & dirtman13 come to mind. You may want to contact them for advice in purchasing a GPS unit. There's a lot more than those two also!

I just finished printing the Fry Mountains Topo from that site.

It's definitely a cool site that FishPoet pointed out to us.

What size are you printing the maps?

I'm printing them "tiny" by comparison to what they should be. I'm printing out on 8.5' X 11" paper. The files don't allow me to automatically tile the image for printing, so with Fry Mountain I used the option to print "current view" and kept moving the map. That gave me full resolution, but took a really long time over the network I was using.

I wonder how much Kinkos would charge to print them on a plotter, so that I could get 27" x 21" full sheets. I'm gueesing that it may be more than it costs to buy the paper Topos.

I've got the National Geographic Topo Software from around 2002, but I don't have that loaded on the laptop I'm using during the day. That would probably be easier to print from, but it would take me a while to figure that out again.

The best answer will be to save it all on a GPS unit and I'm still undecided on which one to get. Maybe they'll be on sale this weekend. I'm looking at the Garmin 60CSx and the Colorado and Oregon 400t. I've read a lot of mixed reviews and want to see them all in the sunlight to see how readable they are.

I can't wait 'til tomorrow!

That's one I considered, but it seemed to be less feature rich than the others for about the same money.

I'll have to give it another look though.

The one thing that seems to be consistent in all of the comments I'm reading on the Internet is that the Garmin 60 CSx seems to be more accurate than the others when in remote areas. I'd rather sacrifice other things for better accuracy.

I'm guessing that's better than printing at Kinkos and a lot more convenient too!

Well, we were bummed too! I need to put my size 13 shoe up these guys butts and get them moving. You know the high desert people, no one wants to work but everyone wants a check "work Thursday to get paid Friday to get loaded on Saturday and complain Monday their broke".

Me too. This is becoming a headache.

I took the head from the first shop. Paid him what I thought he deserved and he agreed and dropped it off at another shop "Napa Machine Shop". I just didn't think he could pull it off and boy was I right!

I still need the labor part to start and remove the timing chain/gears and be ready once done. I also have them adding some pipe on the roll cage in the rear.

We were disappointed to say the least. Wife changed shifts with someone to go on a few trail rides this weekend. We drove to Joshua Tree National Forest instead.
