          Roger,

          Is this run full?
I signed up as a no. But I got my Jeep fixed and would like to come along if it's still open.

          Thanx,

                  Roger,

Is it possible to put together a high level map with the route that we're taking and where the points of interest are that we'll be visiting?

It would be helpful to have for putting things like direction, distance and time in context for future visits. I'm not talking about you providing details like distance and time, but just a loose idea of where we'll be. We can fill in the rest as we drive.

I have not bought a GPS unit yet and this is exactly what I'd like to have one for! Soon!

An XJ will always cost you less then any girl ever will, and you will always know when the spark is gone.

No XJ hatin' on my part! Gregg is one of the few that has the option to choose which Jeep he wants to drive!

I'm sure your XJ will do just fine

                        Hi Christian,

                        The short answer: no

                        The long answer:
I tried to do just that. but I'm not an expert on GPS. when I pre-ran it, I took my GPS equipped lap top with me. I marked some way points and points of interest, but it's not good enough to share with anyone. I need to master GPS. I have not even found a good map of JV. JV is so large that if you try to look at it in it's entirty on Google Earth, there's no detail. To get detail you need you have to zoom in so close that the area is very, very small and useless.

I printed out a map that I found on the District 37 website but it is such poor quality that I can't even hand draw our route on it with any accuracy.

Sorry, I hope to master GPS technology and maybe by the next trip I head up I'll do better.

                          Christian, I'm continuing previous post.

Last night and this morning I finally checked out the thread started by Fishpoet: "New USGS electronic maps." It's a pretty cool site.

I down-loaded the Fry Mountian and Ord Mountian maps. For this trip, I suggest you down-load the Fry Mtn map. More later...

It looks like I will not make it. The wife has to work due to needing this Thursday off for the Jimmy Buffett concert... That means I'll be at home Saturday watching our little CJ. Please everybody, take lots of pictures. If the wife pulls something off for the weekend, I'll let you know, but things are looking bad.

Roger, I'm not sure what GPS you have (aside from the lappy) but just get tracks, and mark waypoints. Then the rest can be done later with different software. I'm sure Doug can help as his software seems pretty neat. I'll probably get the NatGeo stuff sooner or later.

Thanks for the suggestion. My CJ is not street legal and the XJ does amazingly well and has AIR CONDITIONING. It has 30's, rock rails, tow points front and back with posi in the rear. I'm even suspecting it has a lunch box locker in the front as I bought it with 200 K on the clock. When I got it there was no front drive shaft as the guy was commuting in it. After a week in Death Valley I couldn't spin a front tire. Won't know until I actually pull the D30 cover which I plan on doing soon. It is stock height but in playing around the edges of Bullfrog it only clunked a few times! I just got back from a great 6 state motorcycle trip. Colorado and Utah were very beautiful this time of year. New Mexico was green but not as nice. Sure wished I'd had my Jeep on 95 between the upper Lake Powell and Capital Reef National Park. I could see all the Jeep trails but the BMW RT was not suitable.
