  • Trail Report: Sunday exploring

Met up this morning with Mitch, and Jeff & Shirley (Scaffoldman) at Hwy 247 and Camp Rock Rd and then met Scott (Desertdog) along the trail up to Riley's mine. (...and Mitch, I cant remember the other two's names!) Kurt, and John
We headed out from there to the Rodman Mountains and the Petroglyphs (sp) that was the coolest place! We checked out the area for a while and then left there and Kurt and John split up with us at Troy Rd and Camp Rock Rd. Lesa and I, Mitch, Scott and Jeff & Shirley went exploring. We stopped off at Camp Skee mining area and then headed over to the Ord Belt area for even more mine shaft exploration! All in all it was a great day! The weather wasn't bad and the company was great!

Mitch had a camera issue so I took pic's for the day, here are a few of them. Enjoy!

Scott & Lesa (avjeepfreek), Jeff & Shirley (scaffoldman), Scott (dezertdog), Kurt, and Mike thank you all for a great day in the desert. We met today at Camp Rock Road and Hwy 247 just as the Cakewalk group was staging. We headed north on Camp Rock and then to the Rodman Mountain Petroglyphs. We had a short 1/2 mile hike to the lava canyon and the petroglyphs. We took an hour walking the canyon and checking out the dozens of old pertroglyphs and critters roaming about. When we headed back, Kurt and John who were in pickup trucks split off and headed home, while the Jeeps headed for Camp Skee and later Ord Belt Mine for some Mine exploring. One tunnel at Ord Belt Mine is
444 feet deep! All in all a great day! Lots of trails and sites. Sorry to others that couldn't make it. Good friends wheeling and not sitting home makes for a fun day.

This was a strange day.... I forgot my photo card in the computer at home and could not find my back up. So no photo's from me today. Very different. Thanks Scott for the pic's.

          Thanks

Thanks for a great day in the dirt.
          And man, I got dirty!
Tailgunnin' with the top down and the wind blowin,
makes for a much needed shower. But it was well worth it.
Mitch, Scott & Lesa, Jeff & Shirley THanks for a good day away from working on the house. :hide:
And I got to meet some more good people.

          Scott

that looks like a cool trip to do too. Next time you go I wouldn't mind joining you. There are some petroglyphs out in the antelope valley area too, aren't there? I seem to remember there being some on some fed property you have to be escorted into but the quantity of glyphs is outstanding.

                Ed,

PM me to be on the explore list. I don't know of petroglyphs in the Antelope Valley but the ones north of Ridgecrest on NAWS China Lake are the best on the west coast. The tours are set up through the Maturango Museum in Ridgecrest. Absolutely incredible tour. Talk to you soon.

Will do Mitch...and yes, those are the ones I was reading about. I'd like to check that out. Wonder if we can organize a petroglyph/tehachapi run?
