  • Trail Report: Superstition Mountain OHV Area

It turned out to be a very nice weekend out in the desert. Got a little too much sun, though. Anyway, I met up with a friend saturday morning and headed on out. Once I got all my gear unloaded and camp set up, we tore off into the mountain for some fun. We cruised along the rolling sand dunes toward Sand Dam and then along a narrow tail atop a high ridge to the north side of the mountain. We tried looking for the trailhead to Knock-on-Wood trail but missed it. On the way back we hit up Lucky Lady Trail and found a few rocky areas to play in. The next day, we looped around the north side again and tried squeezing through a few narrow rocky trails, such as Wrangler Canyon. One lead us to this gnarly rock ledge/waterfall. Tried as I might, I couldn't get up it. So on we went to Sand Dam Canyon and back to camp. This was only my third time out there and although it's not that vast of an area, there's still alot to explore.

Looks like you had a good time.
From the pix in your album, the ledge you refer to appears to be the first obstacle on Broken Mirror.
It's a short, twisty trail with a ledge at the end of it about the length of your Jeep at about 55* - 60* or so.
Not that difficult if you are locked in both diffs and aired down.
Not sure... but I think the shooting of firearms is a no-no in the OHV park.

Is that website pretty much all Tom Severin? I like the HAM-centric aspects of that. I think I will have to add it to my time-sucking list of website forums.
      Off road adventure photography:

      TreadLightly Trainer
      Wilderness First Aid (WFA)
      HAM - KI6PFO

Thanks. Broken Mirror, huh? I wasn't getting too far up it with open diffs. I'll have to try it again after a few more mods.
Yeah, we had to head off onto BLM land to do any shooting.
