This morning Dave (flatpoint), Scott and Lesa (AVjeepfreek), and myself (great88) headed out to watch the Hammerdown trail run and to run the Box Canyon trail before heading out to explore some mines in the area. There was a large turnout for the Hammerdown section, and we watched for a little bit and ran the Box Canyon trail and watched the end of the Hammerdown trail from there. We left to check out a couple of mine tunnels in the southern end of the Fry Mountains. these are very old and have a lot of wood timbers for shoring. This usually means an unstable tunnel and the in and out explore was quick.
We then headed all the way across the Ords to Hwy 247 and did some more exploring in that area. We checked a couple of remote camp sites and explored a mine tunnel that we knew that the resident bats are always home. I took a few photo's of the first bat, and after I walked out the others saw a group of 5 or 6 bats in a side tunnel. Over 8 hours of Jeeping! Another great day.
Thanks Dave, Scott, Lesa, and everyone else at the Hammerdown Trail.
