  • Trail Report: West Ord Mountain Mines

I met Dave (flatpoint) and some friends for a couple hours of shooting trap and then I did a little exploring. We busted a lot of clays and had a great time. I didn't have any other plans so I checked out the One Ton Mine area for awhile. There was a lot of mining activity in this area long ago with remains of mine tunnels, leaching ponds, and miner cabin foundations. Next I headed south to check out the area around Jim Hill's Mine. A year ago this little canyon climb had me all freaky and I ended up walking a 1/4 mile to the mine. Not anymore, just stick it in low range and putt putt right up. It's rather funny to look back just a short time ago and see the changes in confidence. I checked this mine out from the outside. The roof is held up with timbers, boards, and wedges! Also I am careful when I'm flying solo. A slow decent back towards Hwy 247 and through Lucerne to home. I know we still have some winter left but I'm loving the "Indian Summer" type weather!

No pictures of shooting cause everyone starts the cry baby thing. I'll stop there.

Cool stuff Mitch. It looks like you could almost drive your Jeep into one of the mines.

Congrats on smacking down that climb that made you nervous in the past. Feels good to beat the hill, doesn't it?

      Mike,

It feels good indeed! You are partly responsible. Glad to see that Mr Green is back on the trail and is well again.

Good to see you doing what you love Mitch. Nothing like spending a day in the outdoors doing some shooting and wheeling makes you think that life can be a pretty grand afair
