The next morning at Barker Ranch, we finally could get some pics in the light of day:
While breaking camp, I noticed some fluid leaking from the front axle of Mr.(mud-colored) Green. Taking a closer look, I found that a single cap had come off of the axle U-Joint:
The joint didn't break, but a stub shaft 'ear' was bent. The wash-board roads were rougher than I thought! We couldn't get the unit bearing nut off to change the axle, so we finally just pulled the axle and stuffed the tube with rags. We lost a lot of time unfortunately.
On the way down Goler Wash, we stopped at the Newman Mine Camp:
I caught Kurt watching some critters playing in the rocks, but he sooo has that 'I don't wanna leave look' doesn't he?:
Goler Wash has some cool views along the way:
When this boulder breaks free, it's going to be a big mess!:
Once on the Panamint Valley floor, the lake was still far from dry:
We discussed whether or not to run the Fish Cyn Escape Trail, but we opted for the faster way back to pavement through Ballarat.
“Da Boys” at the end of the trail:
We stopped by the 'Lizard Rocks' on the way out of Trona. Chloe is so cute, even the rocks want to eat her up:
Look at the nice new color of the Jeeps!:
On the way home, we hit heavy and stopped traffic seven miles outside of Kramer Junction. Kurt spotted a power line trail next to the road so we hopped on it to see how far that we could go:
It was like a Jeep commercial! Kurt is sure that we were getting cursed by the folks stuck in line. Near the end, all the folks that took the same trail were waiting to get back into the traffic due to a BIG mud hole in the trail. Hhhummm, what's a little more mud on top of the 100 pounds of Death Valley mud we were already carrying? After a little mud-slingin', we were able to pop back into the traffic at the intersection with the 58. Man! As Kurt called out on the CB at the time, "I love my Jeep!"
It was a LOT of driving in the DV area this time, but I still had a great time with great friends. I'm looking forward to trying some new, and hopefully smoother, trails in DV in the Spring.

A jeep is nice, but I'll settle for a heart beat...:bonk:
I reserve the right to use this picture anywhere and everywhere I so choose until such time that proper payments have been made. This is good stuff guys, absolutely priceless. I'm also thinking it would make a heck of an avatar.
Yep! This thread definitely took a turn to the DARK SIDE.... But it's all done in fun. That's what it's all about!
