  • Trail Report: 3N16 / Jacoby Canyon, Dusk Run

    Hey everyone,
We ran 3N61 / Jacoby Canyon last nite and had a great time! (VVJeepfreak)- Dan and Steph and the Kiddos-(Alex, Bobby and Trin), (Roger), (Great88)- Mitch and (AVJeepFreek)- Scott and Lesa and Taylor, all met up at the Valero gas station in Lucerne Valley at about 7pm. We left there and headed up to the 3N61 trailhead at the 6000ft marker on Hwy 18, We met up with (Curtis), (Nipple Twister)- John and Christy, (MrBash)- Shant and Nina, and two friends, Arron and Walt. 8 Jeeps all together.

After we aired down and had a small driver meeting, we were off. The weather was great and it was perfect timming as it was just getting dark enough to use the off road and rock lights. The First part of Jacoby was rocky and rutted and had just enough small challenges to make it fun!

    Roger

Mitch's new rock lites worked great and looked awesome! And... after a brief stop to replace a fuse that blew in mine, I got my rock lites working too!

    Curtis

    Shant and Nina

    John and Christy

Arron's stock TJ had no trouble at all!

    Dan and Steph

After we finished Jacoby Canyon, We stopped along 3N16 at the Mine Hopper (which looks like it's about to fall down!).... and we spent some time gazing at the stars over Big Bear. It was absolutly beautiful!

From there we headed down 3N16 to Holcomb Valley and Stopped at the Cabin to explore.

At Poulque Canyon Rd / 2N09, we said goodbye to Curits, John and Christy and Shant and Nina. They returned home via Big Bear. The remainder of the group continued down 3N16 to 3N14 / Big Pine Flats. Towards the end of 3N16, Roger and I were in a perfect position on the trail to see a beautiful 6 to 8 point Buck run across the trail infront of us. There were several other Deer with him but they had crossed before we could really see them....... and as luck would have it, we didn't have the camera ready either!

We took 3N14 down to Apple Valley and ended the nite at about 2:00am along Roundup Way, where we aired back up and said our goodbye's.

It was a great nite and I think we all had alot of fun! (I know I did!)

I'd ride with these guys again any day! Thank's to all of you for commin out and sharing a wonderful evening of 4 Wheeling with us!

If you have Pic's, Please share!! Thank's again!

6:30pm Afternoon shower over Big Bear area, 10 miles of the 40 miles was damp and dust free.

                  Scott,

I'm going to do 2N17X and Willow Creek in the morning and we might have an extra 2 rigs for the next night run. How about Friday August 15th? That won't conflict with Jesse's Pumpkineater night run on the 9th.

Jesse did you notice, 4 well equiped YJ's on this run. It is hip to be square!

Great trip! What a great group to go with. Scott, you did a great job as the trail boss. Keep it up!

I worked on my headlight switch today, I'll just have to do a little night run to see if the spary cleaner did the trick. BTW, I had no trouble all the way home from Roundup & Central and I didn't do anything different!

                              Kevin,

The trail was clear, but there were some huge trees that had been moved recently. Other than that, a nice climbing canyon trail.
