  • Trail Run: Big Bear 7/26 - 7/27

A few of us are planning to head up to Big Bear next weekend so I figured I'd post up a thread and see if anyone wanted to join in on the fun. Nothing is set in stone just yet, but here's what I was thinking.

Meet Sat @ 9 AM up in Big Bear close to the Gold Mtn Trailhead (any suggestions?). Run Gold Mtn and John Bull on Sat. I plan to be up there both days and would like to camp if there are others that would like to do the same. I'd be up for a night run and/or a Sun AM run . . . just need to get back on the road home before it gets too late. Hope some of you can make it!

Hey Joe, I might be in for this one. I'll know for sure by the end of this week. I need to do a 'redo' for J.B. We were up there yesterday after G.M. We headed up towards J.B. there was a group of about twenty rigs in front of us. About a quarter of the way up we were at a dead stop for about and hour and a half til someone got on the horn and said there was fourty jeeps struggling and some are coming down the mountain. We didn't want to wait any longer, so we through a U-turn. By the time we got down to the trail head there was about a dozen more rigs going up. So I definitely need to do this again. Hopefully next week will be less traffic. BTW after the thunderstorms a few days ago G.M. got more fun.

We were up the hill when the blazer flopped. The group of samis & tacos that he was running with decided that they needed a whole bunch of liquid courage before they could remedy the situation and move along.

That figures.... some people just dont think it affects other folks fun time. you know, on the way out on the 2no9 there were some emergency vehicles haulin buns 'n flashing lights, first thing i thought was someone rolled! then a forest service truck stopped and asked if we could find a wider area to pullover on because there were more trucks on the way. But he did mention there was a medical emergency at holcomb creek. I know there was gonna be an MJR crew out there working, but today. Was wondering if you heard anything?

I didn't hear anything. After we finished the bull we headed for Burnt Flat and then over to Horsethief Flat.

                on edit....I found this.

Holcomb Valley – Shortly before 1 p.m. today, a horseback rider on Forest Service Road 3N07 was reported down and had bleeding from the ears in the Holcomb Valley area, according to scanner reports.

A San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department helicopter was ordered to extract the accident victim while medical personnel are hiking into the area. The helicopter was refueling in Rialto and then scheduled to head to the scene of the incident. The rider was reportedly unresponsive, according to scanner transmissions.

Between the 4runner with broken linkage and the blazer flop, the group had the trailed blocked for over 2 hours. They were pounding beer the whole time and they made it clear that I was an impatient asshole for wanting to get off the trail.

Don't blame you I'm glad I left when I did. Btw, how is the burn flats ? I don't think I've ever been on that trail. But Horse thief is going through cactus flats right?
                      I've done that awhile back.

Tracy loves collecting salmon quartz at Burnt Flats and the view of Lucerne and Johnson Valleys is breathtaking.
