  • Trail Run: Dishpan Springs to Cleghorn Sunday July 20th

I know this is kind of a late notice but our Odessa trip was cancelled due to T-Storms in that area.

I'm running Dishpan Springs to Cleghorn tomorrow afternoon (celghorn from Lake Silverwood to the 15 Freeway).

Meeting time is 4:00PM at Dishpan Springs. I'm checking my San Bernardino Forest Map right now to determine exact meeting location which I will post up soon.

    All who are in...Chime In.

Description Of Dishpan Springs from MJR.

    Dishpan Springs Trail (3N34)
Located near Lake Arrowhead, this black diamond trail is a forest favorite!
    Big Bear Area, Southern California

    Length: 4-1/2 miles
    Time to complete: 1-1/2 hours

Dishpan Springs Trail can be found in the San Bernardino National Forest near Lake Arrowhead. The Dishpan Springs Trail is one of the toughest and most popular trails in the SBNF. The favored direction of travel is from West to East starting on 2N26Y Hook Creek Rd. Dishpan Springs Trail is available to street legal vehicles and green sticker vehicles.

You can expect to encounter large boulders, deep ruts, steep climbs and a dry waterfall. The US Forest Service rates this trail a black diamond most difficult trail and it is not recommended for stock SUVs. Body damage and breakage are a possibility. Elevation ranges from 4700' to over 5900' and during the winter months snow and ice add to the difficulty of traversing the trail.

We will meet at the small diner on HWY 18 right before Green Valley Lake RD. Click Here for location info on Goole Maps
    From there we will...
    1) turn left on Green Valley RD
    2) Turn Left onto 3N16
    3) Turn left onto 3N34 to Dishpan Springs
At the end of Dishpan Springs we'll stop by Splinter's Cabin and take some photos. we'll also take a bunch of photos and video on Dishpan
We will continue up 3N34 through willow creek and arrive at HWy 173 where we can take another break at Pinnacle's Staging Area.
from there, anyone wishing to go home can do so....the rest of us will...
    4) turn left onto HWY 173
    5) Turn right onto 2N33 to Pilot Rock
we will play at the pilot rock playground for a few minutes and then we will...
    6) Continue down Pilot Rock RD (green rated) to hwy 138 and onto Cleghorn. Cleghorn will end on I15 and we'll call it a day!

Bottom line....don't worry too much about the directions above. Meet us at the small diner on HWY 18 and follow the Bash-mobile

    Happy Times awaits.

Would it not make sense to run 2n17x and then dishpan springs I have done that and that makes for a nice afternoon trail ride those 2 are a bit closer together and meeting ar rhew dam at silverwood lake is easy. Both of those runs are fun and have a fairly scenic but somewhat busy trail connecting the 2 trails

I just updated the meeting info. Check the first post. The goal of tomorrow's run is to run Cleghorn in reverse at night/sunset. Check out the run I planned. I'm sure you'll enjoy it

Shant did you figure out how long the whole trip is going to take? It will be a long day
Dishpan about 1.5 hours with a small group and no stops
then to get to the pinacles about 30 minutes if its not busy, lots of atv's and dirtbikes.
Pilot rock if you do 2n17x 1.5 to 2 hours
then about 20 minutes to Cleghorn road then roughly 3 to 3.5 hours before you get to the 15fwy
Some folks might want to bring extra gazoline or fill up before the start of the run. All of this is without a lot of vidoeing and photo shoots. Just something to keep in mind. However you look at it, it will be a great trip they are all very nice trails.
