  • Trail Report: Big Bear YP54

Tracy and I left Norco at 7:30 pm on Wednesday July 2.

We arrived at 2N93 Wildhorse around 9:30pm. We offloaded the Jeep and headed the 8 miles up 2N93 to YP54 at 8700'. We were in camp around 10:30pm, leveled and called it a night.

Thursday July 3rd we did some geocaching and fishing/playing near the Santa Ana River.

After lunch we headed up Hwy 38 to Onyx Pass and took the black diamond route back to camp. (2N93D).

Friday July 4th we met the So Cal 4x4 Geocaching group at the Santa Ana River Trailhead. The 4Runner wouldn't start. We pulled the starter and headed into town only to find all the parts stores closed. We ended up bypassing the solenoid to get the 4Runner back down the hill.

Tracy and I headed back to camp at 5pm. Tracy fixed up some ribs with all the trimmins and just after 7pm we headed for 2N08 Knickerbocker to find our spot to watch the fireworks.

364 nights per year Big Bear Lake has just a handful of boats on the water after dark. Tonight there was easily 1000 boats on the water.

The fireworks started at 9:15 and lasted until 9:45. It was a great show.

There was a bunch of traffic on 2N08 and 2N10. From 2N10 we took 2N06 Radford Truck Trail back down the hill and then 38 to 2N93 and back to camp. 33 miles on mostly dirt roads avoiding all the REAL traffic in town.

Saturday July 5th was our lazy day in camp.

We had dinner with a friend in town at 6pm and were back in camp by 9pm.

Sunday July 6th we packed up and left camp at 9am. We left the truck and trailer at 2N93 trailhead on Hwy 38 and took the Jeep down 1 mile to 1N38 Heart Bar Peak.

I hiked the 1/4 mile up to the peak to hide an ammo can.

We took this pic on the way down.

Back in Norco at 3pm (105° vs 80° in Big Bear)

            Doug,

Great pictures and report as always. Good to see others going out often. I do like the "One Eyed" pirate look, it's so perfect for the pirate Jeep!
