  • A NZ student wants a ride

I found this post at CA4WDC. I thought someone here might be interested in helping this kid out. The CA4WDC forum is not very active so not too people would see his request.

I just sent him an email with a link to MJR and told him to introduce himself here. I know someone, including myself will be happy to hook him up.

Make sure you check with the rules of the Exchange Student program on off-roading. Some organizations do not allow it. I know when I had my student I had to get special written authorization from her parents and the agency to take her off-roading in the Jeep.

Other than that, sounds like a great opportunity for him!

As a side note, it is his father inquiring about this.

Really? They have rules specific to off-roading?

It's insurance liability. Who's gonna pay if the student gets hurt. Typical, but neccesary, I guess. We can handle it...

Hey there I'm Lincoln Prouting. I'm the guy that is going to the states and would like to do some 4WDing. I arrive August 15th and leave late July 2009.

I drive a 1993 Suzuki Vitara/Escudo SWB out here in NZ. Only been on 2 trips in my own car. I have been going out 4wding with my mum since I was about 8. I am now 17 and turning 18 in December.

I will be staying in Calipatria, I'm not sure of the address but i Know the family I'm with is the Gaines family .I'm looking forward to it and hope to get out there to really experience some 4wding in another country.

                  Cheers

I didn't mean to lol.....Calipat? Truly in the middle of nowhere. Maybe Britain can pick him up, or I could coming from Yuma to Escondido.

                        Calipat

Interested in doing any duck hunting?

Actually he's not too far from some good wheeling areas, Anza Borrego, Ocotillo, Truckhaven, an hour or two to JV or Big Bear.

For what it's worth (FWIW) you found a great site with good people who help each other out (somewhat rare at times). Does the family your staying with off road? Will you have some form of transportation to get around? Most of us are in the So. Cal. area, keep checking in when you get to the states. You'll find a ride for sure.

                          Cheers, B&T TJ

My family doesnt do 4wding, but i think they might have done it a few times before. I wont have any real transport as i cant drive on public roads. any where else is fine.
I wouldnt mind doing some duck hunting, have wanted to do some for a while..

Can you get an International Drivers license or is driving something prohibited by the exchange program?
