    wow so you had a bad day. in such a lovely place, man i am happy to see you are OK and so is the jeep. Utah is such a beautiful place. thinking of moving there.

      The recovery

      Here's a picture of the recovery. Chris from Nations Towing in Moab did the recovery. He put two winch cables on the front of my Jeep. By working the combination of the two winches while I steered the Jeep we got it back on the trail with no further damage.



      I drove it out. It was well after dark by the time we got to the Shafer Switchbacks. Here's what the switchbacks look like in the daytime:





      This was only three days after I slid off Hogback Hill, so I was VERY NERVOUS going up the switchbacks in the dark. And I don't think it would have been any easier in daylight.
      If you don't like the way I drive, stay out of the bushes!
