I was just there last month and I am very sorry to report that "They" are paving it!! When I first took the trail 5 years ago, it was all dirt and I didn't see another vehicle. I could park and take pictures. I even stopped and took a nap!
It is an easy trail, but one of the most scenic drives I've ever been on! It is a good trail especially if you are a female traveling alone (like me). When I drove it last month (a birthday present to my sister), we saw 5 other vehicles.
If you haven't seen been there yet, go ASAP! Before they finish paving it and it becomes a highway. Oh, and I also enjoyed the car-ferry ride on the south/east end of the trail. Be sure to check the schedule before you go!
