  • Pre Super Bowl Rattlesnake Run

I was hoping to get a run together up Rattlesnake Canyon and maybe hit Heartbreak then into Big Bear depending on the weather and trail conditions. This will be a moderate scenic run. I plan on seeing the sites exploring the area and just having some fun. This will not be a get up the mountain as fast as possible run. We will be stopping and exploring. Plus I don't want to break anything before Calico.

    Chuck,

Depending on the weather, I have 3 jeeps that would like to go up and then back down Rattlesnake Canyon. Would love to join you to the top and for the exploring. I plotted the GPS coordinates for some sightseeing things on to my topo's. I still want to do Heartbreak, but want a dry/no snow day for my first time there.

Mitch, this is right up your alley. If Heartbreak is to difficult we will not go on that trail. I'm want to site see and just take an easy run. Hope you can make it.

Where is Rattlesnake? Sounds like fun!!! I'll go as long as I can make it back home for the game.

It's off the 247 on the back side of the San Bernardino Mountains.

Do you guys know where Willie boy's grave marker is up Rattlesnake Canyon? I would like to find that again, this sounds like the run to do it on, Will ask Momma for a Kitchen pass... Though there is a b-day that day...

I believe it is not in Rattlesnake Canyon.

I have heard that signs are now posted closing the route to Willie Boy's Grave as wilderness area. I also heard that there are now signs up in Rattlesnake Canyon closing off everything except a 12' section through the canyon as wilderness.

I heard the same thing about Willie's grave. It’s supposed to be gated and it's a long hike to the site.
I have seen lots of signs through Rattlesnake designating wilderness area. Are you saying there’s more?

I have seen a few signs over the years. I heard there was an effort a few weeks ago to add a bunch more signs closing of some of the wide spots in the canyon where two roads had developed.

Oh, that makes sense. As long as we can still make it through. Thanks

any two roads that may have developed are probably indescernible after last week's rainstorm...!!
