Well as usual the weather man was wrong (sort of). Three of us went through Rattlesnake Canyon to 2N02 then took Heartbreak ridge up to Pontiac Sluice and back to 2N02 in to Big Bear. By the look of the trail I don't believe it got much rain on Friday.

After a short run through the Joshua tree forest and 2N02 we jump on Heartbreak Ridge. I could defiantly see that some of the more challenging climbs were a little more eroded then the last time I was there.

This is the only pic I got from the top of Pontiac.

After we finished Heartbreak we were thinking of taking 3N03 up to some more trails but it was getting late and some dark clouds over BB we decided on 2N02 back in to BB. That's when we started to see a little snow on the ground. My son was with me and it's been a while since he had seen snow so I was going to find him some.

This is coming to the end of 2N02. Notice the clouds.

After we aired up we headed down the 18 for home and sure enough there it was. Cal Trans sign, "HWY 18 closed at dam". So we turn around and made a run for the 38 to get down the hill before dark. No such luck. Things were looking pretty good then all of a sudden we were hit by the weather mans wrath.

Then it happened. Someone ran in to a embankment and traffic stopped.

Luckily we were only stopped for about 1/2 hr. That's when I noticed the one person in this long line that didn't mind being there.

Had a great time as did the boy.
The rest of my pics are here:

Great story Chuck, thanks for sharing! Looks like fun and as usual in that weather the roads are more dangerous than the trails!

            Hey Chuck!

Great report and Pics! It looks like a good time. Based on what I saw from Apple Valley today, you got out just in time. Sorry to hear that you got hung up in traffic, but Cody's smile seems to have made it all worth while.

Thanks guys. It was fun. I think it may have been a good thing there was no snow on the run. Some of the down hills on Heartbreak and Pontiac would have been pretty hairy in the snow.

That would have been great. Hopefully there will be a run this Saturday. Finger is healing but I will defiantly have a nice scare. My first (and I hope last) trail scare.
