  • Rat Patrol Conquers the Doran Entrance!

    NEWS FLASH!

In less than 5 minutes, Pat Patrol crawled through the Doran Entrance like it was made just for him!

The Calico Run was an MJR event that will be posted later, but the rock-crawling event that happened late in the day needs it's own report.

For those of you that are not familiar with the Doran Entrance, this little piece of rock crawling torture is one of those spots that requires an 'All-In' commitment. For most people that try it, either you make it through the entrance or you tow your broken vehicle home. Usually, there is very little in between.

This is Rat Patrol first attempt at the infamous piece of trail.

The entrance as it looked moments before the attempt:

Kurt rolls up the entrance to the trail with a 'let's see how it feels' attitude. I had the impression that he wasn't really sure if he was going to try it or not, but he would go in a little way to see how the Rat responded:

He crawled over the first obstacle with ease:

Apparently feeling good about his progress, Kurt then approached the Wrangler-killing main obstacle:

The first line taken looked like a good line, but the wedging affect on the front-end seemed like a bad plan:

So he backed off to pick a new line:

The new line sent the driver's front tire soaring:

But it lands on terra firma and positions him nicely for the climb:

Reaching an important balance point, the passenger front tire needs to reach the next rock before coming down:

At the most critical point, the Rat gripped the walls of the notch for dear life:

Crawling carefully, Kurt cleared the most dangerous portion of the obstacle:

Although he was past the most dangerous spot, Kurt was not clear of the boulder field at the top of the notch:

Even so, he was flyin' high and catchin' some air to celebrate!:

He continued to negotiate the boulder field:

Kurt then approaches the last climb out of the Doran Entrance:

Climbing out of one of the toughest, Wrangler-eating obstacles in the Southland:

Total time... less than FIVE MINUTES! We only know this because the video time recorded 4 minutes and 20 seconds.
(Hopefully CBRAZOR1's son will post the vid. Hint, hint, nudge, nudge):

Congratulations Kurt! Very nicely done! You AND your Jeep ROCKS!

SaWEEEEET!!! Kurt, you finally did it! I remember last time you were REALLLY close to trying it. Apparently you weren't going to leave Calico again without attempting the GATEKEEPER!! Glad you had nothing but success and some MJR friends around!

                Now let's see that video!

Congratulations Kurt. That is a Very Impressive Drive. I was out there at 9:30am yesterday, must have just missed you. I couldn't figure out how that section could be done. Now I know, Hitch a ride with you. That is great.

                          Mr. Anderson,
You should have been a sports announcer. Your play-by-play is spectacular!
Your spotting skills were spot on as well. Thanks for pointing the way. I'll return the favor when it's Mr. Green's turn...

Hey, I'm pretty sure we saw you. You drove by camp early on. Yeah, would have enjoyed meeting you. Wasn't it great out there this weekend? Perfect weather, just enough traffic, good wheelin. We'll have to hook up some time out there.
