MY Favorite Trail! My Manager is also a fire captin/sheif (one of those) and he said that they're predidcting that it will be headed back toward the mountain area later on because of wind changes. Hope not thats my house!

As of 7:00 AM, there was little change in the fire. It's size remains
at roughly 2,500 acres. "The fire has laid down real well," said one
official Tuesday evening, "with no open running flame" The only
problem area is the northeast corner near Apple Valley. Helicopter
operations are to resume shortly, with fixed wing operations to resume
            after 8 AM.

Tuesday afternoon, the fire reached a trigger point along Deep Creek,
causing officials to issue voluntary evacuations for the Highlands and
Mariannas areas of Apple Valley, east of the Lake Silverwood spillway.

The Pinnacles Fire started just south of the shooting area along
Highway 173 near Lake Arrowhead. Firefighters had a shakey containment
on the fire shortly after 10 AM Tuesday, but the fire escaped
containment just before 11 AM and has spread rapidly. It jumped and
spotted to the north in gusty southerly winds Tuesday afternoon,
burning north and northwestward toward Apple Valley.

There is no immediate threat to the Lake Arrowhead area. No structures
are threatened. The only roadway closed is Highway 173 between Grass
Valley road and Arrowhead Lakes Road in Apple Valley.

As of 7:00 PM, the Pinnacles Fire remains at roughly 2,500 acres.
Significant fire activity on Wednesday was limited to the northwestern
side of the fire in 70-year-old vegetation. Fire crews managed to
increase the fire's containment to 55%. Fire officials believe that
the fire was "human caused" and is expected to be contained by
                Saturday, according to news sources.

Tuesday afternoon, the fire reached a trigger point along Deep Creek,
causing officials to issue voluntary evacuations for the Highlands and
Mariannas areas of Apple Valley, east of the Lake Silverwood spillway.

spotted to the north in gusty southerly winds Tuesday afternoon,
burning north and northwestward toward Apple Valley.

                fire. (Photo by Scott Straley.)

There is no immediate threat to the Lake Arrowhead area. No structures
are threatened. The only roadway closed is Highway 173 between Grass
Valley road and Arrowhead Lakes Road in Apple Valley.

all the smoke from this fire must have been what made the most amazing red sun i've seen on the beach since i've lived here. about 3pm in the afternoon the sky turned pink with a red sun hovering over the oceanic horizon.

sorry i don't have any pics but it looked stunning.
                  03 TJ. It'll go 65mph...can't complain.

Mike, I think that the smoke plume over the beach area yesterday came from the Day fire in the Los Padres National Forest. Here's a satellite image taken yesterday at about 2:30 pm PDT; you can see that the smoke plume was heading in your direction. Unfortunately, the satellite image doesn't show the Pinnacle fire
