ESCORT SCHEDULE REVISION
San Bernardino County – Caltrans’ concerns for
the safety of the public and the contractor has
made it necessary to revise the escort
(reversible one-way traffic control)
schedule. Repairs on the State Route 330
(SR-330) project began on July 26, 2006. The
$7.5 million project is expected to last for
approximately 90-days with a 53-day closure of
SR-330 included within this work
period. Although there will be access to the
mountain communities during the 90-day project
schedule, SR-330 will fully close on Monday,
August 7 through August 20, 2006 with no escorts
or access. During this full closure, the
contractor will then move forward with further
slope removal for the repair of three storm-damaged slopes beneath the roadbed.
Caltrans anticipates the contractor can stabilize
the passage road for reversible traffic control
by approximately August 20, 2006. Once a
Caltrans geologist deems the passage lane safe
for traffic, escorts will resume. Below is
information for the escort and work schedule (subject to change):
August 7 through approximately August
21, 2006 – SR-330 closed with no escorts, use alternate detours (listed below).
August 21 through September 4, 2006
(Labor Day) – SR-330 open Monday through Sunday
from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. with reversible traffic control.
September 5 through late September –
SR-330 open Monday through Sunday from 5:30 am to
8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. with reversible traffic control.
The remainder of the 90-day project will allow
access on SR-330 with intermittent reversible
traffic control during contractor work hours.
TRUCK TRAFFIC RESTRICTED
Excessive vehicle weight on the passage road may
result in complete loss of the highway. Caltrans
number one priority is the safety of the motoring
public, contractor employees, and Caltrans
employees on the job site. Therefore, it has
determined that trucks five tons and over will
not be permitted on SR-330 during the duration of the 90-day project.

Caltrans wants to insure the public that mountain
resort communities are accessible with short detours:
Ř To Crestline, Lake Arrowhead, and Running
Springs – take SR-30 to SR-18 (Waterman Avenue) and go north.
Ř To Big Bear and Fawnskin – take I-10 to
Redlands and exit at Orange Street. From
eastbound I-10 exit, go to second signal and turn
left on Orange St. Travel about one mile to
Lugonia Ave. and turn right. Lugonia Ave. and
Orange Street are SR-38. Continue on SR-38
uphill to Big Bear and Fawnskin or take SR-18 to Big Bear Lake.
The public is advised that due to the nature of
this project, unforeseen circumstances such as
weather or additional slides may cause the
project schedule to be adjusted. Escorts may
also be canceled without notice in the event that
the highway is not safe for passage. For more
