I guess we'll be two ships passing in the... traffic? I'm headed to Oceanside tomorrow.

The Holcomb Creek Trail has never been on the winter closure list. Greg Hoffman explained that some of the heavily used roads and trails which are popular with SUV drivers are treated with a phosphate compound to hold down dust. When it snows, the snow reacts with the phosphate to create a layer of ice. Because of liability and the risk of lawsuits, the Forest Service closes those roads and trails during the winter.

Well I can see where the Forest Service might possibly save tens of thousands of dollars a year by stopping the use of that phosphate stuff on the road because it sure is hell does not hold down any dust.

If the forest service had their way many more roads would be closed for the winter. Holcomb Valley has been a target for many years for winter closure. Unfortunately for the forest service there are still active mining claims and the claim owner have access under the "Occupy Laws"
