  • Airport Mesa/Carrizo Creek Recreational Shooting Closure

    http://www.blm.gov/pgdata/etc/medial...sa_closure.pdf

"These lands managed by the El Centro BLM Field Office, are located in eastern San Diego County,
California. Be advised that the other BLM managed public lands of the El Centro Resource Area are
unavailable for shooting due to the lack of identified designated shooting areas as defined by the
Eastern San Diego County Resource Management Plan signed and dated June 2006. This Closure
Order is necessary to protect US Border Patrol agents as they perform their duties along the top of
    Airport Mesa."

As much as I hate to hear about any kind of closure, this one sounds like it is a good idea. Those BP agents are working thier butts off out there. It would be nice if they issued a "moving target" permit though...

Well they graded a new road up the hill right there, along the border. The range was just below it. Last time I was out there I drove up to check it out but was stopped and turned around by a BP agent. I told him that this was all public land managed by the BLM but he didn't listen. I do know of a few other areas to shoot that arn't too far from there.

It's cool to shoot there, I just hate seeing all the trash people leave. Pick up after yourself and a little extra please..

it should not take more than a few days to get proper signage to designate an area, if they can have a presence to enforce the no shooting, they have the personnel to put up signage and properly designate the area. Too much is taken away from the citizenry because of lazyness and apathy I think. I work for the Gov't and I see plenty of it, and it sucks! get off yer lazy ass people! do your job! If they asked MJR to help out on this, we would have it done before lunch, crack off a few thousand rounds, wheel for a few hours and still have time to go fer sushi...
