  • Azusa Cyn is on FIRE!

I work at the mouth of the Azusa (San Gabriel) Canyon and a large wildfire started sometime this afternoon. Not sure if it is actually in the canyon, but it looks like it is from a distance. The big DC#? plane is flying back and forth over my home in Rancho Cucamonga trying to get it under control.

Looks like Fire Season has hit close to home.

Sounds like two fires. One one Azusa Canyon and also one near Wrightwood. I can see the smoke moving north over the mountains west of here. Not good!

Oh wonderful,... seems like California always has that problem more than most states.

Its interesting that this is a small little fire in an area without a lot of structures (farther in the canyon and up the hill anyway), yet there are already 600 people fighting it. I remember reading yesterday that the "major fire" in Athens Greece has "as many as 600 people on it".

Sounds like we need to export some American KnowHow in firefighting!

The aircraft is a DC-10 They are one of my tenants. It's the coolest aircraft on the planet. One drop covers more than what a dozen heliocoptors can do.

Did you read that last part? The Azusa fire belived to be caused by human action near the dam....what is the likelyhood this will cause the OHV area to close permanently?

Roger, is Evergreen stationing the 747 firefighter out at your airport?

Too bad that fires are so destructive and also create the the most awesome skys. I hope that they get these out soon with no injuries.

I had to go out and run an errand. There is a bridge on Orangethorpe Avenue in Fullerton that I drove over and I could see the flames from the fires. Scary stuff

A few months ago they were here and went through a battery of tests and CALfire was not impressed. Last I heard they were headed to Alaska.

We worked with them to set aside and set up an area for them to load & launch, but nothing came of it.

They could still show up if ordered up by the USFS or CALFire for a specific incident.
