FROM THE DAILY PRESS STAFF REPORTS

    Off-roaders beware.

The international border with Mexico is becoming of increasing concern to the U.S. Government due to an increase in dangerous illegal activities and an escalating trend in border violence.

Visitors to BLM public lands along the California-Mexico border including the Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area in Imperial County, need to be aware of activities around them, according to a notice from the Bureau of Land Management. If you see anything that looks illegal, suspicious or out of place, please do not intervene. Note your location and call 911, or report it to the nearest law enforcement authority.

The BLM is cautioning the public to be aware of their surroundings when visiting public lands in San Diego and Imperial Counties and to follow these safety tips:

    • Cell phone service is out of range in many remote areas.

    • Know where you are at all times, follow good safety procedures.

    • Do not pick-up hitch hikers.

    • Keep valuables out of sight and lock your vehicle.

    • Avoid traveling outside of well-marked roads and routes.

    • People in distress may ask for food, water or other assistance. Do not make contact. Report the location of the distressed people to the nearest BLM or other law enforcement authority.

So do bullet holes count as body damage or is a new classification needed?

We've got Trail Scar, Desert Pinstriping, Rock Rash . . .

        maybe we could add:

Border Wound, Coyote Orifice, or Mexican Peephole

(and pehaps Ghetto Gash, for our L.A. Homies)

I have a friend whose lifted F-250 was stolen and taken across the border. Two weeks later some illegals crossed the border in it near Yuma in the dunes. The border patrol chased them thru the dunes for a while till they decided to cross back into Mexico. But the Federalies were chasing them to by this time and those guys are not as forgiving as the border patrol so they were firing at them with automatic weapons. Scared for their lives they changed their minds again and crossed in to the USA side and were captured by the Border Patrol. For my friend this was good news because the Border Patrol returned his truck to him. Bad news was it was full of bullet holes and the motor had been over-heated and was toast. It’s the Wild West out there.
