VERY IMPORTANT and URGENT: New Petition to Save Johnson Valley- Specific Plan

As many of you know, Johnson Valley OHV is being seriously considered by the US Marine Corps as their new training area. The public scoping meetings and studies have been completed. The Public Comment period ends on January 31st, 2009.

Most options that were offered took all or a portion of Johnson Valley, one was to do nothing at all (which is unlikely).

Based upon Brad Mitzelfelts letter to Dianne Feinstiens office, we have drafted a new more specific petition that outlines an option that would de-designate a portion of wilderness area that is acceptable to the Marines. The wilderness area in question is not considered quality wilderness area, AND has already been used for military training in the past.

We need the public's support for the Marines to even CONSIDER this option.

It is imperative that you read and sign, including your email and mailing addresses. Upon the end of the comment period, this petition will be submitted initially to the Marines, and then we will forward the signatures and addresses to each local legislator.

Just a note: Our last petition has 3,596 signatures. We have been passing it around and printing it for our elected officials and the Marines... and it's had a great impact on everyone who has seen it. Let's make it happen again with this new petition, which is much more specific. Thanks everyone!

Blaine and I worked very hard on this petition to make it dual purpose. After it is done with the Marines, it will be forwarded on to the appropriate Senator or Congressman. This would be the first step in getting the wilderness area de-designated.

PLEASE forward this to EVERY board you are part of. We only have a bit over a week to get this petition circulated and signed.
