We own a Mustang that came from the BLM program and she's a great little horse. We've also been to a few of the auctions where you can buy them for $125.
We have 5 horses now and we really can't take on any more. Feed prices have just about doubled this year alone. Which is probably why sales at the auctions have gone down.
As times get tight, recreational hobbies tend to suffer first.
The euthanizing of wild horses has gone on for years but I guess it's on a much wider scale now.
I'm with you Sarah.....there are hunters for almost any type of wildlife out there. Why not charge someone for the opportunity to hunt them instead of charging taxpayers some stupid price to euthanize them? The end result is the same, just someone willingly pays for the opportunity instead of billing the taxpayer.

i love hunting! i go out every oppertunity that i can. but i also love horses. i dont really have one of my own but i go riding quite often on the same horse. so it like it is my horse. and i personally could not shoot something like a horse, for you know about the attatchment to them and the owners.
who am i kidding im the type of guy who would shoot my best dog for not coming when called.
