  • Costco Connection "Wilderness Lands" Poll

In the latest issue of the Costco Connection, there's a poll about the protection of our wilderness lands. One of the most potent threats to the use of our public lands and natural resources by all of us (businesses, recreational vehicle users, campers, hikers, equestrians, etc) is the designation of land as "wilderness land." This designation, if illegally applied to land that is already developed and/or used in any way by the public or businesses (mining, gas & oil production, etc) will effectively put the land off limits to the existing use. Clearly, the dangers of out-of-control wilderness designation threaten our right to use the land for recreation.

The Costco Connection magazine is distributed to every Costco member through the mail or email. It's wide distribution makes it a great place to express your opinion and may make people think twice about supporting such measures in congress. Please take a few seconds to vote in the poll here. The question is "Are we doing enough to protect our national wilderness?" My answer is that the government is doing too much already and that these things should be left to the users of the land (like us). But since it's a yes or no question, I guess a simple yes is all that's available...

            Sarah,

            You know I voted YES!

But I'm afraid the since the environuts have so much power, I am afraid we are doomed. The endangered leaping lizard is more important than the endangered WASP.

Jeez, the answer to that question can really be taken out of context. "We need to do more to protect our wilderness" probably sounds pretty good to the average Joe who never spends time in the wilderness. "Hands off" sounds good to me. I gave it a yes.

Voted "Yes!" but it's like I told the reporter chap that was wheeling with us, our story doesn't have a protagonist... the other side wants to close stuff because of certain cute animals or endangered whatever... and touchy-feely people vote for that cute and cuddly protagonist every time. All we can say is, "we have a lot of fun here or there, we love to wheel here or there..." and people think we are selfish...

now the governator wants to start closing public parks so the state can save money.... they will still get funding and staff enough to keep us out though... :puke:
