    Ok this is the snit. Garmin allows you to download and install satellite views into your Garmin GPS unit ( for a yearly fee) Heres some samples





    These are shown are free, and are area compressed. For larger maps you need a subscription. I'll try this out this weekend.

      The Garmin unit I have ( Oregon 550) does 3D, combined with the sat mapping its tuff to beat. Yeah you can zoom in.

        Well its a bit to be desired. But never less a good day to hike. Couple kmz, from about 3 years apart.

          Were planning a hike from VOM down to Mountain Springs. This is from the Garmin Base Camp. Here the elevation . the 1.4 marker is a turn out for just in case. Its a fairly steep grade through some bad terrain
