Defense Mine & Lookout City (Panamint Valley)

This track starts at the intersection of Minietta Mine Road and Panamint Valley Road, heads west on Minetta Mine Road to Nadeau Road, north on Nadeau Road, then west on a BLM trail (I forget the number) past Waterfall Zero to Defense Mine, then to Lookout City, and then back to the starting point.

It's hard to believe there used to be a few thousand people living up at Lookout City for a few years in it's heyday. Did you explore any of the dwelling caves on the north slope?

Did you go into Defense mine? You can climb all the way through that one, up the ladders, and out the vent shafts.

The Defense Mine and Lookout City are both wonderful excursions out of the Panamint valley. A group of us did these trails for Thanksgiving in 2009. Here are some pics:
