Algodones Legends
Mid 1800s gold traveled through this area via Yuma. It was money to support the civil war.
Friend of mine whose father was an editor for the Ensenadas news paper was a reporter for his father paper.
My friend Michael grew up in Spain he is a gringo though. His first language was Spanish. After they moved back to America he was required to learn English. Hes a real cool person ( has a 65 willis jeep last, year for that willy). His dad moved to Ensenadas for the editor job. Mike worked for his dad as a reporter. ( Now works for GE Plastics)
One of his assignments was to go out and find these small Baja towns and get news out of them.
Algodones is a small town just west of Yuma. The town actually has border port of entry to the US. Anyway news gets out Mikes in town and the Mayor, chief of police and all the elders show up ( they want a piece of the pie) . They go out to lunch and discussing this town. Many of the elders all confirm this swept away "carrier"
The Legend:
In the 1800’s a Stage coach ( perhaps Wells Fargo) carrying gold was swept away in one of the Colorado floods. Many gringos showed looking for this stage or wagon. They were escorted out of Mexico of course
Fact or Fiction?? Anyone go through this port of entry into the Baja? I have its really cool.
Gold??? ummm
