    BUT,

assuming I drive to and from work every day per week (which I don't), and working 50 weeks per year, my total yearly commute is 600 miles, or just over 3 full tanks of gas.

      hmm, lets see:

      120 miles round trip
      5 times a week = 600 miles/week

We'll use the same 50 week work year
      600/week times 50 weeks = 30000

Granted I don't have to be there everyday, but then noone would have cool Jeep stuff.

there's always a con with the pro...for all the money i save in gas, I more than make up for in high rent.

I'm only slightly jealous... I can't complain... and to live that close to my work would require me to live in an industrial complex...

Even though I drive about 250 miles a week in the Jeep, I only pay for gas when I'm out on the trails. Gotta love the company gas card in today's age!!

This week, I'm working in Torrance; it's 37 miles each way. To get there, I have to go through downtown Los Angeles. It takes me about an hour and a half each way.

The other day, I found a gas station listed on the internet where I could save 5 cents per gallon. It was two miles away (four miles round trip). I pumped in 15 gallons, so I saved 75 cents. Since I get about 16 mpg, and the gas was $3.05, the detour cost me -- about 76 cents.
