  • Tow Rig?

What you guys think of this for a tow rig. Click I called the dude but he does'nt know what gears he's got, doe'snt tow with it or wheel it much (good answrer!) I guess 4:10's would be ideal
That's my max price range, been serching the recycler alot, wanna stay away from 2wd due to past experience (snow?......where'd the snow come from?)

Found this one needs an O2 sensor but the engine and tranny are rebuilt less than 20K ago. 460 with a 5 speed, hmmmmm.

460/5-speed will be better for towing (of course, I'm a fan of rowing my own anyway...some will say automatic is better), but either way, your not going to like the frequent and expensive trips to the gas station. On the other hand, the 351/2bbl carb is going to leave you cussing every time you point it up a hill with a full load.

Price is soon forgotton, quality is not.

Rear rotors on my 60 are Dodge. Calipers are Chevy on the rear discs. Front end has Jeep, I-H Scout and Ford parts.

As far as a tow rig - pick what you like. I can find a BBS and several gigabytes of both good and bad for anything you can name...............

Dunno - my rigs capable of driving to all the places I usually go. Only thing I tow is the boat.

                              Ford Trucks Rule

I had a 76 F250 4x4 Hi-Boy for 10 years 'till I moved here from Seattle in '92. It had a 390 auto in it. It got 10mpg no matter if it was loaded or empty. We could load 5,000lbs of firewood in it and go down the hiway at 55. It was extremely dependable, and would haul/pull anything you could dream of.
I would recommend a 460 if you can find one, most will have an AT. A 5spd is fine, but the clutch can wear out if you use it for a lot of trailer towing.
One of the big-engined Fords would make a great tow rig for a jeep, either on a trailer or flat-towed. And yes, in that vintage they out perform GM and Dodge. In fact, there's no comparison.
