  • International Space Station fly over

Did anyone go out and watch the space station fly over LA just now? It was moving NW to SE at 17,500 MPH. It took less than 5 minutes to go horizon to horizon. It was very bright this time. Pretty cool.

I was stuck in the factory. Errr. I've missed the last couple eclipses, this, and the Super Moon.

There is another flyover tonight at
          Thu Jun 27, 8:43 PM 4 min 22° 18 above W 10 above S
It will come from the NW and pass to the SE again. If you are East of Pasadena, look toward Pasadena at 8:43 PM tonight. It will be visible for about 4 minutes.

Starting August 3 the ISS will be visible twice a day and will be very bright. Here are the date/times and viewing directions:

                Aug. 3- ISS 05:16:36 am NNW 05:19:56am 67° -3.8 (very bright)

                Aug. 3- ISS 09:56:24 pm WSW 09:59:36pm 41° -2.9 (very bright)

                Aug. 4- ISS 04:28:14 am NNW 04:31:22am 35° -2.6 (very bright)

                Aug. 4- ISS 09:07:40 pm WSW 09:11:02pm 80° -4.0 (very bright)

                Aug. 5- ISS 05:16:25 am WNW 05:19:27am 32° -2.4 (very bright)

                Aug. 5- ISS 08:19:15 pm SSW 08:22:30pm 49° -3.3 (very bright)

For most in LA, it will either come from the NW about one hand above the horizon moving to the SE, or from the SW about one hand above the horizon moving NE. The second time listed is transit time (horizon to horizon). The longer transit times are when the ISS passes almost directly over LA. The shorter ones are when it will be off to the West or East .
                Enjoy

                  Yeah..
Those AM times are not likely to have my eyes viewing, but the PM times are on my watch list.

                  Thanks!

We used to love to watch the station,
                    and the shuttle,
on the Long Range Optical at the C.A.T. Site on Edwards AFB., when I worked at NASA for Dryden Flight Research Center.
Had to be there for support for the missions back then.
