  • Graveyard / Calico / Yermo

    On the south bound 15, just south of the bug station, is a graveyard, with about 7 graves there. Anybody know any history about it? Buried there is ;

    Barbara A Williams, 1870 - 1926 Kent england

    Thomas O Williams 1871 - 1943

    Harry A Williams 1914 - 1996

    Marianne Michell Koprow 1930 - 2004

    Chapel Roseberry 1867 - 1937

    John L Wilson 1868 - 1940

    There is a mine site just north of the grave yard.

    Kevin,

    That spot is the "Otis Cemetery" named after Otis Chandler, a local mine owner. Otis Chandler was also the founder of the Los Angeles Times. Prior to 1905, the town of Yermo was known as Otis. Hope that helps.

    Also the area you asked about with the rail tunnel was the Sunrise Canyon Borax. They mined borax under the name of Borax Properties, Ltd.

    Let me know when you head out next time.
