At first glance, I think the car is the winning bidders.
Dang, 30 pages on that forum already. Auctions are regulated by state and federal law. Reneging on an auction because you don't like the price you got as a seller is a no-no. Dude will win in court if that's what it takes. Bet that dealer won't take a car back just because of buyer's remorse. I hope he follows through and gets it. Douche=bags.
I had a douche-bag eBay seller renege on me once--it was Sears Overstocks. Only time I ever left bad feedback.
If it was me, I would have a sheet of ply wood on the side of my suburban says some sh!t about the dealer. Then I would call the news and have them meet me there so I could explain.
Buyer needs to also call Dodge Corp and explain what happen. Tell dealer 20/20 showed interests and a few other shows.
By the time I posted my last, registered on that forum, and was ready to post, there were 9 more pages in that thread. This thing struck a nerve with a lot of people (me included)!
I read 35 pages last night. I read the rest today.
Glenn E Thomas Dodge Chrysler Jeep has a publicity nightmare on their hands. 150,000 views on 200 forums in 5 days.
They have an 800 number that might cost them $10,000 in the next few days from calls from the internet.
This article from October 19, 2009 has some great quotes from the owner (Bob): Surviving Great Depression and numerous recessions, Glenn E. Thomas Dodge celebrates 100th year in Signal Hill, Long Beach

“My dad taught us well, and we are continuing in his legacy,” Davis said.
He noted, however, that after the recent (June 16) closure of the nearby Long Beach Chrysler Jeep Dealership, the Glenn E. Thomas dealership began selling those brand names as well. (So they have expanded)
“The main focus for my dad and Mr. Thomas was always, ‘Treat people like you want to be treated’,” Davis said. “That remains our primary focus as well, and it applies to our customers and our employees.”
Davis added that Thomas and his father also believed that customers should be treated like special guests from the moment they walk onto the lot. “My dad always said, ‘You never get a second chance to make a good first impression’,” he explained. “When a customer is in front of us, we want to make sure they feel welcome, that they will come back, and that they will recommend us to their family and friends.”

I called them this morning... They are still back pedaling. They say eBay removed the reserve.
Either way, it isn't the bidders problem. Give the guy his car for the winning bid price and sue eBay for the balance if it is indeed due them.
I explained to the folks at the Glenn E Thomas dodge that it would save them lots of money to just end this and eliminate the phone calls, bad publicity and all of the other negative ramifications coming their way from this.
3/21 Both parties had plenty to talk about that day but in the end of it all, things worked out for everyone. So there is praise to be made to both sides, especially the dealer who did honor the auction.
Would encourage everyone to send them praise and not attack anyone in that establishment as this was not the point of this thread.
