  • Are you ready for an Earthquake

Not only you but your entire family.

Just remember during a Major Quake emergency personnel WILL NOT be there to help you.

You must prepare to be by yourself alone for at least three days! So prepare yourself.

This mournings quake was only a 4.4 but a wakeup call.

I do have lists to help you get prepared, I am, I am also a CERT (Citizens Emengency Reponse Team )member with extentive background in First Aid, Recovery, Extraction, and Cordination.

So dont just think of yourself but family members.

Keep all of your cars full of gas, minimum 2 gallons of water per day per person 1 person=6gallons

Enough dry goods to last a week, flash lights, Propane to heat food up etc.

Dont get in the rush after the fact and fight crowds in a panic.

    Be Prepared.

A decent method if your a camping type is that after each trip you prepare for another right away. get in the habit and you will have most of what you need each time

Getting out my camping gear always reminds me to check the disaster supplies. I will admit I'm bad with the water but I do have more than enough all around the house. Just in case. This is a good reminder to be prepared.

But, I do love a good Earthquake. Today's was cool. Nobody hurt. Just the Earth flexing it's muscle.

I don't haven enough water stored. If we’re had an earthquake today, I think we would be using my backpacking water purifier on our 36 gallons of fish tank water.

dont forget about the water in your toilet tank. Its supposedly the cleanest water in the house.

You also have the supply from your hot water heater, providing that it is strapped in and does not take a fall.

I have one of those water purifying bottle things in my kit. . . we have a pool . . . do you think the pool water would be fine to drink after purifying it?

I don't know, I think the chlorine would make it thru.

wouldnt the chlorine boil off faster than the water?

I guess boiling would be an option . . . I have a coleman stove, if that would work.

I've got the gas Coleman to boil water, with plenty of fuel.

My In-laws have horses, they bought the sealable plastic 50 gallon containers and filled them with water. They put one in every field incase something happened to the water supply. Just an idea.

Yep, my family is prepared. We live rural so we know that we won't see any emergency responders. Lots of food, water, propane, guns & ammo. We have a trailer to live in if our house collapses.

Schmo - All your neighbors are going to want the water from the pool. Would they panic enough to try to take your purifer away from you? What if the pool cracks and the water leaks out? What I guess I'm saying is have water stored. Don't count on water from a community pool.

Good point . . . next time I'm at the store, I'll stock up on some bottled water. I've got an emergency kit with some military style rations, and other important items. I really doubt my neighbors would attempt to take my purifer away from me especially when I'd have a 12 gauge slung around my shoulder and a .357 on my hip

I have a 5 gallon Sparklets water bottle with a cap that I was using for water changes in my fish tank. If I were to wash it out and put tap water in it and the cap back on, any idea how long the water would be good? 6 months a year?
