How to get old mine info?

I really like checking out the old mines in Johnson Valley. I'd like to learn the history of each mine we visit.

I'm having no luck getting any info. I want to know when they were operating, the claims actual name and what they were mining. Was it Gold? Silver? Talc? Lead? etc.

I can't seem to find any online maps with the names on it.

Today I went to the gold Prospecting store in Hesperia. No luck at all as the person working the place didn't even know prices of the maps.

So far the only info I have is that the area was called "The dry lakes mining district".

Anybody know where I can get the info I'm looking for?

Try looking on the BLM website first. There is some good info there. A vast majoriy of the mines fall in BLM land. You can also go to the Barstow field office and get info there.

I have found a lot of mines listed on both printed and electronic maps like the Delorme Atlas & Gazeteer, National Geographic Topo, Garmin MapSource, etc. Sometimes they have the name and others they just show a map symbol.
