    Cliff notes:

Guy started driving to Death Valley for a Wheeling Trip.

    He never showed.

    His Jeep has been found.

    He has not been found.

Well... It didn't turn out good.

Right now it looks like hypothermia, but it's still under investigation.

Very sad news! I feel for the family.

This is why you should never go out alone and always go prepaired!

That's too bad that he didn't make it.

I hope that finding his body helps the family get some closure.

Even in the dead of summer, I usually take gear that would allow me to survive in a snow storm.

This is sad. Everyone needs to learn at least basic survival skills. He had a vehicle & camping gear. He should have set himself up before hypothermia took over.

Everyone - LEARN HOW TO SURVIVE and BE PREPARED.

It would be good to know the reason why he wound up in that situation. A lot of people can learn from that. I wheel alone quite a bit, and there are times when the good judgment center of the brain just disconnects. You think " I do that all the time, so no big deal". This just shows how important it is to be a thinker, not just a doer. I hope his family gets through this ok.

Sad story, but then it emphasizes why we carry so much safety and survival gear in our rigs, I sometimes wonder about the load I carry. But then something like this comes up and I keep packing it.

I can only imagine what his wife and family must be going through now. On the other hand here's to a man who died with his boots on. His death reminds us once again of our mortality. His last trip was one we all will make.

The biggest thing you need to bring in the wilderness is an absolute determination to live and survive that will go further than a shitload of gear that you cannot carry when your vehicle breaks down. Some basic survival skills and a very strong determination will get you a long way

#1 ingredient for survival is Positive Mental Attitude.
                      #2 ingredient is shelter

If you EVER get lost while Jeeping, STAY WITH YOUR VEHICLE. The vehicle is almost always found within 72 hours. If you HAVE to leave your vehicle, leave a note in the vehicle where you are going. ie. "I'm going north to gully in search of water"
