between a shade tree mechanic and a professional yesterday
I had Art come over to the house for a day of wrenching on the 67 CJ5, we are doing a bit of horse trading and redoing the brakes system is part of the trade.
Art was going to replace the master cylinder and weld in new brackets for the modern one I had gotten to upgrade the system. I had already retro fitted GM truck disc brakes on the front and some 11 inch drums in the rear, oh along the way I had replaced the D27 front dif with a d30. Well as I would do it shade tree style I probably would have crawled under there and looked around a bit and tried to do everything while not disturbing much that I did not need to at all.
But here is Arts way of looking at it.
Pass me this wrench and that. Bamm, all my pedals and linkages are on the ground, ok pass me a grinder, Bamm all the mounts are being grounded on or rivets are being grounded off, set up a pair of air chisels, we need a point and a chisel, bamm more noise and more stuff on the ground.
OK<OK I am just trying to bend a bit of new brake lines and double flare the ends when I look over and he has more parts than I could ever name on the ground and is setting up the welder to put the new stuff on, All I can think is I hope he knows where all this stuff goes and how to get it back together.
Bamm, he finishes the welds faster than I could even think about it, has it primed and painted and the system rebuilt, and that included having to modify the brake push rod twice before I could even get 1/2 the rear replumbed.
So in about the time it would have taken me to set up and scratch my head a bit he has it back together and is wondering when pizza is getting there.
I was truly humbled.
