  • Reconsidering....

    Google.

They sure have made our lives easier in recent years with free online tools. But is it really "free?" Is your info safe? Are you supporting a company that supports you back? Consider this graph.

Consider their stance on Prop 8.

Or their support of smart grid, global warming, and don't forget about the friendly PATRIOT Act. (Google admits the US government could use the Patriot Act to access the contents of communications stored with Google, if it obtained a warrant or court order.) And for you "conspiracy nuts" ... (I wouldn't forget about you!) Google's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Eric E. Schmidt attended Bilderberg.

    I've switched to Yahoo search.

    Map source.

Ummm...last time I checked, Google was ranked #150 on the Fortune 500 list . . . I'm sure it's been smelling like big business for quite some time. I wonder how the top of the house over there at Google feels watching Obama snatching up all their talent. Might be a good time to do a bit of executive search/headhunting over there at Google . . . I'll have to keep that in mind in case anything happens where I'm at. Google is ranked #4 on Fortune's Best Companies to Work For list.

I'm sure that the personnel grabs will be rewarded/repaid in the end. This isn't just big business, it's business sticking its hand in the government pot (and possibly vice versa) - that's what has me worried.

Im not surprised by this at all. Once upon a time elections were won and lost on the radio. Then politicians began to utilize television. Odd how people who watched the famous Kennedy-Nixon debate on Tv thought Nixon won but those who listened on the radio thought Kennedy won. Obama's election may have been the first presidential election that was won on the internet. They obviously recruited the best people they could find to help them with their internet campaign. Because they were from Google seems to me to be more about Google being the most popular and successful internet company than it is about the company's stance on the issues. I think that if Yahoo had done %70 of America's internet searches the Obama camp might have recruited from them instead.

Oh I'm sure a nice little side deal was arranged!!! At this point, I just expect "business sticking its hand in the government pot" been happening for years . . . I guess this would just be yet another example. I'd be more surprised to hear of a company the size of Google that didn't.

There's no such thing as yahoo search ... it's bing now. So you are trading off Google for Microsoft. For what? You think Microsoft is really supporting you back?

I finally found an answer to this and wanted to share.
                        http://www.startpage.com/

Every time you use a regular search engine, your search data are recorded. Your search terms, the time of your visit, the links you choose, your IP address and your User ID cookies all get stored in a database.

The identity profiles that can be constructed from this cloud of information represent modern day gold for marketers. But government officials, hackers and even criminals also have an interest in getting their hands on your personal search data. And sooner or later they will...
I was able to replace the yahoo search in my browser and everything. Try it out! So far I'm diggin' it!
