APPLE VALLEY • With three Victor Valley off-road deaths in less than a week, the town of Apple Valley along with Code Enforcement and the San Bernardino Count Sheriff’s Department will be actively patrolling this weekend to try to educate riders.
“The purpose is primarily to educate riders to where the legal areas are (to ride,)” said Kathie Martin, spokeswoman for the town of Apple Valley. “We will also be targeting certain areas around town where there is a problem with off-road riding where citizen complaints are being received.”
Patrol areas during the Memorial Day weekend include:
• Stoddard Wells Road near Interstate 15
• I-15 and Dale Evans Parkway
• Outer I-15 between Stoddard Wells and Falchion roads
• Stoddard Wells Road between I-15 and Central Avenue
• Johnson Road and Central Avenue
• Wren and Caribou roads.
Deputies, code enforcement officials and Citizen on Patrol volunteers will be handing out brochures and maps informing people where they can legally ride. Officials will also issue citations if necessary.
