What's largely been lost in the political landscape in recent years is civility, respect/ tolerance (I didn't say acceptance) for others' views. Let's face it, the Demos have the day right now, but for how long? If a conservative want his or her views to be seriously considered, especially after this administration's ideas prove to be expensive and largely meritless, empty headed attacks are not the way to gain credibility for the future.
To answer your question, the clip seems mild to me compared to the portion of his book I read. If I were a Demo, Independent, Libertarian (anything but a very conservative Rep) I would view Mr. Savage as a pretty closeminded ultra right wing conservative- exactly the perceived end of the Rep party that just got voted out of office.

It's OK to have different ideas.

Respectfully, I do not believe reading a couple pages of (one) of his twenty five books and never having listened to his show On Air
Weekdays: 3pm - 6pm PCT:http://www.talk960.com/talk-test-board-2/3032658 would provide you with a true reading of his insight and educated knowledge. I understand you are turned off by his intenseness but please do not confuse his urgent passion with hate. I would ask you to site the hate that you aledge he display's, but since you threw his book in the trash I doubt you would be able to site the "hateful" passages now... that's too bad.
The principal point here is not a focus on Savage's communication style. It is the valid facts that he has stated. The Right to free speech is being challenged by the Fairness Doctrine. If the Fairness Doctrine is re-enacted you will still be able to get your NPR, CNN, and other liberal news, but WILL NOT be able to get Rush, Ingram, Doyle, Humphrey, Savage, or Hannity. How is that fair? There is a liberal agenda to silence the Conservatives and ANYONE who does not agree with them. Obama stated he wanted and welcomed bi-partisanship. In a very short time, Obama has proven to us by his actions that he welcomes our opinion ONLY if you agree with him. America is Peril.
Stand up and change it!

George Bush was not true conservative... and he is gone.

Max, I guess I struggle with the message as well as the messenger. If you're anything but a white male with no blemishes, Michael has probably taken a shot at you over the years. I will confess that Savage's "thoughts" on autism (google them) hit too close to home. I don't think my 13 year old autistic son is really capable of shaking off his limitations. I realize it's a liberal website, but some of Savage's prizes are located here:

By the way, no offense taken in your posts, the goal here is just to have a lively discussion, in a respectful manner. I respect your views, just don't necessarily agree.

If you really listen and don't get offended by his passionate and boisterous dialogue there is a great deal of accurate information.
Autism: I have many friends that have autistic children, I am also a loving parent, but I see Savage's point about over diagnosing our children in America.
If your child is autistic then according to Savage, he is not talking about you.
"My comments about autism were meant to boldly awaken parents and children to the medical community's attempt to label too many children or adults as 'autistic,' Savage wrote on his Web site and read on his broadcast Monday. "Many children are being victimized by being diagnosed with an "illness" which may not exist in all cases. ... Let the truly autistic be treated. Let the falsely diagnosed be free." Michael Savage-

I like to listen to Savage on my long drives up and down the West Coast. Yes, he's in your face, he's direct and not very forgiving of others views that don't agree with him. But you can't deny that he has his finger on the pulse of the Nation's ultra conservatives. Obama is a cult of personality; the only way to change that is to keep pointing out the obvious agendas and lies and keeping them in the news, and Michael does that pretty damn well. Also, for those who have seen the movie "V for Vendeta", that scenario might play out in this country if we stick our heads in the sand...[CENTER][COLOR=#ff0000]Resistance Off Road

Mediamatters.org is misinformation throughout the media.

I really found it disconcerting that a non-democrat would refer to a blatantly liberal/progressive news source. But your label is Progressive, so at least it makes sense now.
Anyone can do spin on a sound bite. You do not know Michael Savage very well therefore it is rather useless to try to deconstruct him.
Progressives are socialists too.
I will not stand by in a pasture of sheep and watch our Country's constitution dismantled.
Now we are three topics off the track... very Phunny.

Max, Savage's pearls on autism went well beyond your quotes above. I recall he referred to it in the summer as the "phantom disease". It would be hard to see that if you spend just a little time at a center that helps these kids.
As far as the liberal website, I agree that their audio descriptions are over the top, but it's hard to "spin" a guy's actual audio, he either said it or he didn't.
I guess compared to most of you guys, I'll have to accept the relative label of "liberal" on this site (my REAL liberal friends would find that very amusing) if that means distancing from Mr. Savage. Geez, even Bill O'Reilly has tried to do that.
OK, let's agree to disagree and say you guys win, and now I'll crawl back under my rock. From now on I certainly know my place on this site- I'll stick to jeep parts and trails and beer. Can we debate beer brands at least?Last edited by bruce p; 02-16-09, 09:44 PM.
